French/English glossary of specific production lingo (camera equipment, sound, credits etc)

This glossary was an amazing help to me this morning, merci Ciné-Sud!

The rest of the site serves as a “film industry professional’s guide to the south of France”. Keep it in mind for your next scenic shoot along the Riviera…

I completely forgot to post my pictures from this past Christmas.
Here is the first, perhaps of more. In the car on the way home (forgive the shakiness), leaving Paris behind after a delicious dinner out on the town with Mom.

”  The tradition of drinking champagne from a woman’s shoe began in the 1880s in France. Piper Heidsieck revives this tradition with Le Rituel a new collaboration with shoemaker Christian Louboutin. The set includes a bottle of champagne and a red-soled Louboutin glass stiletto.  ”

At Louvre, Many Stop to Snap but Few Stay to Focus….
——
PARIS — Spending an idle morning watching people look at art is hardly a scientific experiment, but it rekindles a perennial question: What exactly are we looking for when we roam as tourists around museums? As with so many things right in front of us, the answer may be no less useful for being familiar.
At the Louvre the other day, in the Pavillon des Sessions, two young women in flowered dresses meandered through the gallery. They paused and circled around a few sculptures. They took their time. They looked slowly.
(via nyt)

I once cut out of high school to go in to see the Louvre and sat in front of La Jeune Matryr for a while. I sat cross-legged on the floor looking up and eventually a kind, older man (read: not creepy) came over to ask me what I was doing. I told him this was my favorite piece in the museum, so he sat down and we chatted about what made the painting so powerful.
That was about 6 years ago and I still like to think back to the moment. It was, in my opinion, a very nice way to spend a friday afternoon.

Celeb Loyalties chez les Francais

Everyone who knows the French, knows that they are insanely loyal to their celebs. Jane Birkin still does not know if its “une table” or “un table” and sounds like she just stepped off the boat- despite having lived in France since 1918.

Similarly, Johnny Hallyday is 150 years old (‘seems like’ anyway) and still wears the leather pants, frolics around the stage & sounds like he smokes a pack of Gauloises/day. This did not stop 700 000 people from coming out this evening to the Champ de Mars in Paris, to listen to his free concert & celebrate the 14th + the 120 year anniversary of the Eiffel Tower (at least according to this article in Le Parisien).

I think that’s pretty groovy.

Bonne soirée! I’m off to drink some wine & eat some cheese.

Allons marchons…
Today is the 14th of July, Fête de la Bastille … célébration de la prise de la Bastille et de la fin de la révolution française. A day like today makes me miss home, miss france and of course the french.
Also, its on a day like today that people over here always make the same jokes about the french military prowess (yeah yeah, “or lack thereof”) (and I guess those jokes abound year-round, certainly not only today), but they are a proud nation full of tradition, respect, history and values and I am equally proud to have grown up there and to consider myself “une petite française” (quoiqu’assez américaine par moments aussi)
